 Who requires an ADR Licence

Any driver of an "in scope" load of dangerous goods in a vehicle of 3.5
tonnes or more needs one. From the 1st of January 2007 the vehicle
weight will not be a consideration. All drivers of an "in scope load will
require an ADR licence. Cf Section 1.1.3.6 od ADR 2007 for details of "in scope".
If you are unsure we are happy to advise on whether your road shipments are"in scope".

What training is required?

Those requiring an ADR licence must undertake a training programme
approved by the Department of Transport. From September 2006 the
Scottish Qualifications Authority has taken over from the City and Guilds as
the agent for the Department in delivering the required training. This
training is provided by approved training providers and instructors.
External examinations are held by the training provider. The licence
lasts for 5 years and may be refreshed in the last year.

Not all drivers need to sit all examinations.

What is the structure of the training

Training programmes are modular to reflect a core element?
(including fire figfhting and first aid), whether the goods are to be carried in a tank
or tanker (anything other considered "packages") and what hazard the goods exhibit. To get the ADR licence the core module, either the tanker or packages module and one hazard
module must be passed. Other modules can be added as required.

What can we provide?
The full standard |Department for Transport programme.
Core (including fire fighting, first aid elements)
Tankers
Packages (anything other than tanks and road tankers)
Classes 1 -9 The full, initial course of 12 modules takes 7 full days, including
examinations. Sucessful candidates will get "ADR Licience" which
is valid for 5 years. Full, refresher training of 12 modules takes 5 full days, including examinations.
This can be undertaken by those who have a licence which remains valid until
the examinations are marked.

Weekend courses can be provided.
Candidates need only attend the modules that they require and DG
Solutions is happy to provide companies with private courses
consisting of the appropriate modules. For example, farming ADR
drivers often sit only Core, Packages and Class 5 (which includes
fertilizers. Due to the modular nature of this course, please contact us for
price information.
Please note that there is a fee per examination which is paid to
the training school who must pay this direct to the examination body
