Client Study 1 – The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen

The Robert Gordon University have a department consisting of two staff.  They send one shipment of one specific type of goods each month.  The shipment can go by road, sea and air dependent on the provisions made by the shipping company.  Almost every shipment was being rejected – or worse, caught in customs abroad - due to inconsistent documentation, packaging and knowledge levels of the companies that were processing their shipment.  Both members of the department needed to know more and to be sure that their shipments would arrive on time with no fuss.

To attain a general level of knowledge on standard courses they would have needed to undertake the following training:

Dangerous Goods by Air 2.5 days £600+VAT
Dangerous Goods by Sea 2.5 days £600+VAT
Dangerous Goods by Road 2.5 days £600+VAT

In other words, a total of 15 man days out of work and a training cost of £1800. In this time they would have learned about topics that did not assist them for their specific issue. Indeed, their product would not even be mentioned in a standard course.

We provided a bespoke workshop (including examination) covering all three modes of transport for their specific item of dangerous goods only:

Bespoke Workshop 1 day £1000 + VAT

A saving of 13 man days and £800 for this client. In addition, they did not waste time going over issues irrelevant to their needs and were able at the end of one day to talk knowledgably about their own product and the associated transport issues. If required we could have taken up to 8 people on this workshop which would have given an even greater saving to the client.
