Dangerous Goods by Sea - Initial and Refresher

Course Aims:

The objective of this course is to ensure that students can prepare a dangerous goods shipment in accordance with the requirements of the IMDG Code.

Participants:

Shippers, packers, freight forwarders / cargo agents processing dangerous goods and any other relevant shore-side personnel.

Course Objectives:

To ensure that personnel responsible for shipping dangerous goods can:

  • Understand and apply the IMDG Dangerous Goods Regulations
  • Understand their responsibilities
  • Classify dangerous goods according to the type of hazard and degree of danger
  • Identify Proper Shipping Names
  • Understand and apply the information contained in the Dangerous Goods List
  • Correctly pack dangerous goods in the appropriate packagings
  • Mark and label packages
  • Document shipments

At the end of the course there is an examination with a pass mark of 75% with successful candidates being issued a certificate.

First time candidates are required to sit the full 2 day course.

Candidates requiring recurrent training may sit the full 2 day course again or may be eligible to undertake the 1 day refresher.
